Earvin “Magic” Johnson has joined ESPN as an NBA studio analyst and will mainly work with Stuart Scott, Mike Wilbon and Jon Barry on ABC’s GMC NBA Countdown.

Former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy, who joined ESPN during the 2007 NBA Playoffs and provided game analysis for the entire 2007-08 season, has agreed to an exclusive multi-year agreement with the network.A Van Gundy will continue to provide analysis alongside play-by-play commentator Mike Breen and analyst Mark Jackson as the lead commentary team for games on ESPN and ABC a?” the home of the NBA Finals. “It was a very difficult decision to forego coaching for the next five years, butA I enjoyed myself so much last year working withA Mike (Breen)A andA Mark (Jackson), thatA I decided to make this long-term commitment to broadcasting with ESPN,” said Jeff Van Gundy.

In an effort to patch up their thin blueline, the Flyers acquired defenseman Andrew Alberts from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Ned Lukacevic and a 4th round pick in the 2009 draft.

The Tampa Bay Rays, in their first-ever postseason bid, have embraced a new team tradition: The Rayhawk. In a show of team unity, many of the players have shaved, moussed, or otherwise acquired the iconic strip of hair down the middle of their heads most know as a Mohawk. Fans have followed suit, and there’s even talk of Rayhawk bikini waxes

VP hopeful Sarah Palin dropped the first puck at the Flyers game and if the crowd’s reaction to her introduction is any indication, she can forget about the McCain/Palin ticket winning Pennsylvania this year. Well, that was unexpected

Well, that’s not the best way to start a season. The 2008/2009 campaign started off a little rough for the Flyers, what with Sarah Palin receiving a mountain of boos and the Flyers falling behind by 4 goals in the first period, but the Flyers were able to fight back to makes things interesting before they fell to the Rangers, 4-3
